I had some old seed that I tossed into the nursery cans in the garden.

6-15-19 – Today I sowed my Mammoth sunflower seeds in my #1500 nursery cans by the cole crops on the opposite side of the fence trellis of the sweet corn. I almost do not expect these Sunflower seeds to germinate as they were not stored properly and are old. But time will tell and fingers crossed.

Seed Saving
I collect seed from my spent flowers on an annual basis. I let the flowers finish out their cycle and harvest the heads after they are dry.
Here is a sample of homemade seed envelopes. Just print to the desired size and fill in your information, cut them out, fold, insert seed and seal your little packets. You are good to go for seed swapping your homegrown seeds! You could put a photo or a drawing of the plant in the space too if that’s your fancy. Make them pretty for gifts!

5-22-20 – I am not sure which day I sowed some sunflowers. I think it was on the 15th… not sure.

1-17-23 – I cannot wait to sow our sunflowers. I will be direct sowing them in several places in the garden. I rarely mess with starting them in the greenhouse as they always do just fine on a direct sow.
I have a lot of seed from last year so I plan to have a nice extended crop of 2023!
The thought of selling cut flowers has come across my mind.
