A chapter on Iris – 2019, by K.Nesbitt(C)2019
Bearded Iris
March 1st – Today, I almost fainted! While strolling to get my mail I saw the familiar blades of a bearded iris in my roses bed and was like, oh no, go back in, it’s too dang cold yet! I would hope that the leaves would argue with me and say, hey its spring and I am going to grow dagnabit!! The temperature here in my zone is still bitter cold at 12 degrees and I hear tell there were two more weeks to Spring. I would hope the Old Man with that snowy beard would vanish, but there is still a skiff of his mutly dandruff on my redneck viranda. Yes, please, make it go away.
Hello Spring!
March 8th – Having a midwest heat wave! The temps are at 30 degrees today and the raven’s are “barking ” outside my window. They seem to be saying catch me if you can as they fly overhead and I sit at my computer. Their haw caws sound like a dog with laryngitis. There is still frost in the ground and when I trek out to my mailbox, this afternoon, my daily hunt for gold starts again. I am looking for the first signs of spring flowers, be it a dandelion, or a daffodil. more blades of the iris, well, and any other plant that says Hello Spring! Spring while early n the calendar is slowly awakening.

IRIS PILLOW SET
by Karen Nesbitt
4-23-19 – I acquired a few bearded or German iris from a friend thinning out her beds and I believe they are the color purple! More than likely an old fashioned heirloom type variety as it is from an old garden established many years ago.
